Works for me, and it can for you!
Niche blogs
Feb 5th
Using the Google tool I posted awhile back, it is relatively easy to locate weird search phrases. Do some brainstorming and come up with a list, then do some free thinking while working with the tool. Find a phrase that people search on, something that matches a product for sale on ClickBank. Not as hard as it seems, but not easy either.
Making money online is almost like a job!
And I think that is something that people don’t understand. If you’ve lost your job, or are looking for a part-time job – this could be for you. You must be willing to put in the time, and can not get discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. I’m thinking that you won’t see any money for a couple of months…at the earliest. But working the web is something that builds on itself over time.It takes a long time to generate links and traffic if done in a pure “organic” manner. Any by that I mean not buying links, buying ad space, or using AdWords. If you can buy these things all the better, but you had better have your crap together or you are just pissing your money away.
Make sure you have killer sales copy, and multiple landing pages!
More on that later, best of luck!
Getting traffic is a bitch
Jan 21st
I’ve been testing methods, and have set up two additional blogs over the past two weeks. Still very little traffic, but it has only been three weeks since I started back at this with a passion. I think my expectations were a little too high, so I’m just pushing through the doubt.
I set up a blog on blogger, and had 5 hits from that to one of my other sites on the first day. Not much, but it’s something…and a lot more than from other random sources.
Keeping at it, all is well.
Niche Blogs and Landing Pages
Jan 11th
I’ve been doing considerable research this week on markets that are popular, have related products on ClickBank, and appear to be on the upswing. It’s a pain in the butt, but interesting work.Niche marketing might be where it’s at…remember that the goal is to crank a few hundred dollars a month out of done, then do it again.
Using free tools, particularly the one from google that I posted on the 8th. Use it, just type in some random crap that comes to your head, and see how many other people search on the same thing every month – both locally and globally.
I also started another blog using blogger: Random Publishing Notes About Making Money Online
Starting to get some traffic to this site from google! Posting to forums and other blogs a little this weekend, will spend a few hours this week doing the same..
Market Research

One way to gauge the interest in a market is to find out how many searches are being performed on Google that relate. Check out the following tool:

Make Money Working From Home?
Jan 5th
Why not?
Or I guess you could rent a room in someone else’s house so you feel like you’ve gone somewhere for the day! But I wouldn’t recommend getting an office – or incurring any sort of non-critical expense for quite some time. When I started my first “regular” company (an IT consulting firm), we had to rush out and get office space that same month.
We also went out and leased three identical black Mercedes-Benz E-320’s but that’s another story…
Let’s Just Say I Learned My Lesson!
Use whatever money you decide to invest in your business on training, web hosting, web design (or buy pre-built themes), and advertising. Read all you can on Internet marketing, buy books on the topic, learn HTML and the basics of the Internet…just come up to speed.
If I had spent the rent on ads…
We probably would have grown a little faster, and not had to pay a salesperson to hang around the office all day. Still, we all worked at it pulling a nice salary and annual bonus, and in the end sold that company for a very nice profit.
I’ve done it and so can you – all using the web to market your business. It can be a brick and mortar store, consulting services, or pure affiliate sales – online marketing will drive money your way!
ProBlogger – Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income
Jan 4th
Bottom Line Up Front
Worth the purchase price and time spent reading.
A Review
I bought this book by Darren Rouse and Chris Garrett over the weekend off Amazon for $15.74 . I would bet that if a complete noob picked up the book, followed the advice to the letter, and kept at it, that there is no doubt that he would make some money as a blogger. Six-figures would be sweet, but will take considerable time (and the authors are quick to make that point.)
Chapters
- Blogging for Money
- Niche Blogging
- Setting Up Your Blog
- Blog Writing
- Blog Income and Earning Strategies
- Buying and Selling Blogs

Summary
Many good nuggets spread throughout the book, and to those completely new to online marketing and blogging, it would be an absolutely fantastic buy. The content is well organized and flows nicely, lots of good ideas about making money online. The book sets the stage, presses you to work exercises throughout to get you thinking, walks you though setting up a blog, pros and cons of hosted vs. hosting your own, suggestions on content types, tips & tricks, and monetization strategies.
I found chapters 2, 8, 9, and 10 most interesting and made the purchase worthwhile.
On the road to Super Affiliate?
Jan 3rd
I want to make sure one thing is perfectly clear:
I really don’t know what I’m doing!
But I’m doing it anyway. I’ve made a little money online, but it was only enough to get me over a hump, then I stopped. The need was met and I moved on…
I should have kept at it!
Because by now I’m sure I would have had created numerous sites and built up quite a bit of traffic. Oh well, water under the bridge. So I say “OK, I made some money online, it’s possible”, but the real goal of this site is to document my activities along the path to “super affiliate” status. Loft goal? Sure
But I have recently rekindled the passion for getting online and creating content. I have a day job that is somewhat technical, but more managerial at this point. My real passion is software development and generally tinkering with things technical. The creation of various websites for my online marketing persuits will serve at least two purposes: give me an outlet for my true passion (technical tinkering) and allow me to make some money to do the things I love to do with my family.
This site will serve as an online journal of sorts in which I will log my successes and failures. I’m a pretty candid person, and often come off as having quite a few sharp edges. It’s served me well so far in the real world, and intend for that to translate to the online world.
Goals for this week
I have quite a few interests, and am trying to narrow those down into something that could translate into success online (be interesting to others = maybe turn a profit). Doing research into some training materials from people that have been succcessful with affiliate sales. So goals this week are to:
- Refine concept for affiliate site and secure domain name
- Purchase (or borrow) at least one training course in affiliate marketing.
Remember the basket business?
Jan 2nd
A few years back, a former colleague of mine started a business selling specialized gift baskets. He would do a good bit of offline marketing to major corporations in our area, promoting different types of baskets that he offered. The corporate types were interested in quite a few different types as gifts for retiring employees, mothers-to-be, Thank You baskets for post-sales follow-ups, etc. I’ve seen other types of baskets for sale just recently to include bachelor/bachelorette party supplies, honeymoon supplies, Thank You, new home, etc.
Don’t just think AdSense
There are many ideas of traditional “offline” businesses that can be taken online. Find a product or service that you think will do well in your area and write about it, send information to local businesses, take orders online, go national overnight!
Just pick a product that will sell, and that people need (or even better – want) all the time. Push it hard, make it work, don’t quit early.
I almost forgot why I logged on tonight…
Jan 1st
So I’m back from a great hoilday trip with my family and wanted to log on tonight to get a post out for 2010.
New Year’s Resolutions Don’t Work
So this isn’t a resolution, it’s a list of objectives for 2010. I’ve found that if I make a list, and actually remember to write the list down, the chances of completing the tasks increase significantly. So here wo go with the 2010 list!
- Post every day to one of my specialized blogs.
- Post to this blog daily.
- Create one new information product this year.
- When I’m not working, completely detach from work.
- Increase my total earnings for 2010 by 20% over 2009.
That’s it, thanks for reading.
